In the Heart of the Sea adalah film 3D Amerika Serikat-Spanyol produksi tahun 2015 bergenre drama petualangan yang diangkat dari buku nonfiksi karya Nathaniel Philbrick dengan judul yang sama. Produksi bersama dua negara ini diproduseri dan disutradarai oleh Ron Howard, berdasarkan skenario yang ditulis oleh Charles Leavitt. Beberapa bintang yang bermain dalam film ini di antaranya Chris Hemsworth, Benjamin Walker, Cillian Murphy, Tom Holland, Ben Whishaw, dan Brendan Gleeson. Chris Hemsworth ditetapkan sebagai pemeran utama, Owen Chase, pada bulan Juni 2012.[7] Tom Holland mendapatkan peran sebagai Nickerson muda pada April 2013.[8] Sebelum Benjamin Walker ditetapkan sebagai Kapten, aktor lain sudah dikandidatkan antara lain Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hiddleston dan Henry Cavill.[9] Film ini dikembangkan lagi pada tahun 2000, dengan Barry Levinson sebagai sutradara untuk Miramax Films.[10] Proses produksi film dimulai pada September 2013 di London dan Leavesden Studios Hertfordshire, England.[11][12] Lokasi lain yang digunakan adalah Pulau La Gomera (ditambah beberapa adegan di Lanzarote) di Canary Islands, Spain.[13] Untuk adegan badai, tim produksi membangun tanki air di Leavesden Studios[14][14][15][16]

Untuk rilis di Amerika Serikat dan Kanada, film ini awalnya dijadwalkan pada tanggal 13 Maret 2015, tetapi kemudian diundur menjadi 11 Desember sehubungan pengerjaan konversi ke 3D.[18] Secara internasional, Warner Bros. memutuskan rilis film ini sedini mungkin sebelum 11 Desember untuk menghindari benturan dengan Star Wars: The Force Awakens, yang mulai rilis 16 Desember.[19][20] In the Heart of the Sea juga dirilis dalam format DVD, Blu-ray dan Blu-ray 3D pada 8 Maret 2016. Selain itu juga dirilis dengan format 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray pada 17 Mei 2016.

Box office sunting
