John Petrucci
John Peter Petrucci, lahir 12 Juli 1967, adalah gitaris Amerika yang dikenal sebagai anggota pembentuk grup progresif metal Dream Theater. Biografi sunting
Petrucci besar di Long Island, tepatnya Kings park dimana Petrucci bersama John Myung, dan Kevin Moore, sekolah di tempat yang sama. Petrucci bermain gitar pertama kali saat berumur 8 tahun. Dan mulai bermain dengan sebuah band pada umur 12 tahun. Band dan gitaris yang mempengaruhi permainan gitarnya adalah Yngwie Malmsteen, Randy Rhoads, Iron Maiden, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Yes, Rush. Karena saat itu sedang berkembang musik metal dan thrash, Petrucci menambahkan pengaruhnya pada musik Metallica dan Queensryche.[1][2]
Akhirnya, teman masa kecilnya yang akan menjadi teman di Dream Theater, keyboardist Kevin Moore mengajak John untuk bergabung dengan band cover-nya. John bersekolah di Berklee College of Music di Boston dengan teman masa kecilnya John Myung (bass), di mana mereka bertemu dengan Mike Portnoy (drum). Sementara di Berklee mereka sering membahas dua pengaruh terbesar mereka, Iron Maiden dan Rush. Ketiganya, di samping Kevin Moore, kemudian membentuk band Majesty. Karena sudah ada band lain dengan nama yang sama, kelompok ini kemudian menjadi Dream Theater. Sementara Petrucci yang paling sering dikaitkan dengan Dream Theater, dia juga mempunyai band sampingan bersama Portnoy, Liquid Tension Experiment, dan telah muncul sebagai artis tamu pada album Age of Impact di Explorers Club.

Petrucci telah diakui dalam ketrampilan dan kepiawaiannya bermain gitar sangat cepat .Salah satu yang paling terkenal di antaranya adalah pilihannya dalam memilih kecepatan yang tinggi, yang seperti ia klaim sendiri, membutuhkan "rasa sinkronisasi yang kuat antara dua tangan [dalam bermain]." John sering menggunakan gitar listrik tujuh-string, yang katanya digunakan sebagai alat menulis lagu, dengan mengambil beberapa keuntungan karena mempunyai nada yang lebih tinggi untuk "riffing" yang berat dan bermain berbagai solo gitar. Antara lain, Metropolis, Pt. 1: The Miracle and The Sleeper, The Spirits Carries On, The Great Debate, In the Presence of Enemies, dan Through Her Eyes. Petrucci juga menggunakan pengalaman kehidupan nyata sebagai inspirasi liriknya, seperti dapat didengar dalam lagu-lagu The Count of Tuscany, A Nightmare to Remember, "Wither" dan Endless Sacrifice.
Backing Vokal sunting
Petrucci telah bertindak sebagai backing vocal sejak Tour Awake. Dia mempunyai suara bariton, menghasilkan suara yang lebih gelap dibandingkan dengan suara tenor James Labrie.
