Yamataikoku (邪馬台国) adalah sebuah negara kuno di Wa (Jepang) pada akhir zaman Yayoi. Sejarah Cina bernama Sanguo Zhi yang ditulis kira-kira 297 M adalah yang pertama kali menyebutkan nama Yamataikoku (邪馬臺國, atau Yamaichikoku 邪馬壹國) sebagai tempat kediaman ratu penyihir Himiko. Sementara para ahli sejarah belum sependapat mengenai lokasi Yamatai yang sebenarnya, para ahli bahasa telah setuju bahwa nama tersebut adalah bentuk awal dari kata bahasa Jepang Yamato (大和, yang artinya adalah "Jepang" atau "orang Jepang").
