William Edward "Bill" Joyce (lahir 11 Desember 1957) adalah seorang penulis, ilustrator, dan pembuat film asal Amerika Serikat. Karya ilustrasinya muncul di berbagai sampul New Yorker dan lukisannya ditampilkan di museum dan galeri seni. Joyce pernah memenangkan Academy Award untuk Film Pendek Animasi Terbaik bersama Brandon Oldenburg.

Film dan televisi sunting

Joyce telah menerima 3 Emmy Award untuk Rolie Polie Olie, sebuah serial animasi berdasarkan serial buku anak-anak yang mengudara di Disney Channel. Serial kedua televisinya, George Shrinks, telah mengudara setiap hari di stasiun PBS.

Joyce pernah menciptakan karakter konseptual untuk film cerita Disney/Pixar berjudul Toy Story (1995) dan A Bug's Life (1998).

Pada tahun 2001, setelah Joyce dan sutradara Ice Age, Chris Wedge gagal mengadaptasi salah satu buku karya Joyce ke layar, Santa Calls, mereka berdua datang dengan ide baru untuk membuat sebuah film animasi berjudul Robots (2005), yang dibuat berdasarkan pada buku berjudul sama karya Joyce sendiri. Selain menjadi salah satu bagian dari pembuat film, Joyce juga menjabat sebagai produser dan desainer produksi.[2]

Pada tahun 2005, Joyce dan Reel FX bekerja sama untuk memproduksi berbagai film, video permainan, dan buku dengan meluncurkan Aimesworth Amusements.[3] Perusahaan baru itu mengumumkan rencana untuk membuat 3 film cerita:[4] The Guardians of Childhood, The Mischevians, dan Dinosaur Bob and His Adventures With the Family Lazardo.[5] Yang pertama dari proyek tersebut, The Guardians of Childhood telah dikembangkan oleh DreamWorks Animation ke dalam film cerita berjudul Rise of the Guardians. Film animasi ini dirilis pada tahun 2012 dan didasarkan pada serial buku karya Joyce dan film pendek Man in The Moon yang disutradarai oleh Joyce.[6]

Pada bulan Agustus 2009, Joyce dan ko-pendiri Reel FX Brandon Oldenburg mendirikan Moonbot Studios, sebuah studio animasi dan efek visual yang berbasis di Shreveport.[7] Studio tersebut telah memproduksi film pendek animasi pemenang Oscar[8] dan sebuah aplikasi iPad,[9] The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore. Kehidupan pribadi sunting

Bill Joyce tinggal bersama anaknya Jackson Edward Joyce di Shreveport, Louisiana. Putrinya, Mary Katherine, meninggal karena tumor otak pada usia 18 tahun pada tanggal 2 Mei 2010.[14][15] Rise of the Guardians yang dibuat berdasarkan serial buku The Guardians of Childhood merupakan sebuah film yang terinspirasi dari putrinya yang didedikasikan untuk mengenangnya.[16] Karakter utama dari Epic, yang juga didasarkan pada buku Joyce, The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs, memiliki nama yang sama dengan nama putrinya.[17] Istrinya, Frances Elizabeth Baucum Joyce merupakan seorang pengacara di Shreveport yang telah meninggal pada 20 Januari 2016 pada usia 55 tahun, setelah berusaha keras untuk sembuh dari sklerosis lateral amiotrofik.[18]
