Mashable dirintis oleh Pete Cashmore di rumahnya di Aberdeen, Skotlandia, pada bulan Juli 2005. Time mengakui Mashable sebagai satu dari 25 blog terbaik di Internet pada tahun 2009.[5] Mashable dijuluki sebagai "toko serbaada" untuk media sosial.[6] Per November 2015, Mashable memiliki lebih dari enam juta pengikut Twitter dan 3 juta penggemar Facebook. Pada Juni 2016, Mashable mengakuisisi sebuah saluran YouTube, CineFix, dari Whalerock Industries.[7]
