John Berryman
John Allyn Berryman (25 Oktober 1914 – 7 Januari 1972) adalah seorang penyair dan sarjana Amerika, yang lahir di McAlester, Oklahoma. Ia adalah seorang figur utama dalam puisi Amerika pada setengah kedua abad ke-20 dan dianggap menjadi tokoh penting dalam aliran puisi Konfesional. Karyanya yang terkenal adalah The Dream Songs.

Kehidupan dan karier sunting
John Berryman lahir dengan nama John Allyn Smith, Jr. di Oklahoma di mana ia dibesarkan sampai berumur sepuluh tahun, ketika ayahnya, John Smith, seorang banker, dan ibunya, Martha, seorang guru sekolah, berpindah ke Tampa, Florida. Pada 1926, di Florida, di mana penyair tersebut berusia sebelas tahun, ayahnya menembak dan membunuh dirinya sendiri.[1]
