Nahum turut dalam barisan perintis kemerdekaan sebagai anggota [[Kongres Pemuda]]. Dia juga mengikuti sayembara untuk menciptakan lagu kebangsaan Indonesia. Sayembara ini dimenangkan oleh [[WR Supratman]], sementara Nahum mendapatkan posisi kedua.
