Chuan-Pu Lee

Chuan-pu Lee (1931 – 2016) adalah seorang ahli biokimia Amerika, kelahiran Tiongkok. Ia berprofesi sebagai profesor biokimia di Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Negeri Wayne dari tahun 1975 hingga pensiun pada tahun 2011. Ia dilantik ke dalam Hall of Fame Wanita Michigan pada tahun 2000.

Kehidupan awal dan pendidikan sunting

Chuan-pu Lee lahir di Qingdao, Provinsi Shandong, Tiongkok. Ia bersama lima saudaranya lahir dari pasangan Fung-Hwa Lee dan Wei-Ping Liu Lee.[1] Semasa pendidikannya ia memperoleh gelar sarjana kimia dari Universitas Nasional Taiwan pada tahun 1954, dan berhasil menyelesaikan studi doktoral di Universitas Negeri Oregon pada tahun 1961, di bawah profesor pembimbing Tsoo E. King, dengan disertasinya yang berjudul "Biochemical Studies of Western Ring Spot Virus".[2] Adik laki-lakinya Chuan-kuo Lee juga menerima gelar master dari Universitas Pennsylvania dalam bidang fisika.[3]

Karir sunting

Chuan-pu Lee pernah memegang posisi postdoktoral di Universitas Pennsylvania yang bekerja bersama Britton Chance, dan kemudian menjadi profesor biokimia fisik di sana. Ia merupakan profesor biokimia di Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Negeri Wayne mulai tahun 1975.[4] Ia juga memiliki perhimpunan dengan Universitas Stockholm melalui kolaboratornya, Lars Ernster. Penelitiannya melibatkan bioenergi mitokondria atau penelitian tentang bagaimana energi diproduksi dalam tubuh pada tingkat sel. Penelitiannya dipublikasikan di beberapa jurnal akademik termasuk Annual Review of Biochemistry,[5] European Journal of Biochemistry,[6] FEBS Letters,[7] Journal of Neurochemistry,[8] Methods in Enzymology,[9] dan Biochemistry.[10] Pada tahun 2011 ia pensiun dari jabatannya.[11]

Pada tahun 2000 Chuan-pu Lee diangkat ke Hall of Fame Wanita Michigan.[12][13] Ia mendirikan beasiswa Chuan-Pu Lee, Ph.D. Endowed Graduate Student Research Fund di Universitas Negeri Wayne, yang memberikan dana bagi mahasiswa pascasarjana untuk menopang kebutuhan akademiknya.[14]

Kehidupan pribadi sunting

Chuan-pu Lee meninggal di rumah sakit di Detroit pada tahun 2016 diusianya yang ke-84 tahun.[11][14] Untuk mengenang jasanya, Universitas Negeri Wayne mengadakan acara tahunan yang diberi nama Chuan-Pu Lee, Ph.D. Endowed Graduate Student Research Presentation Day.[21]
