Biografi tidak resmi

Biografi tak terotorisasi adalah sebuah biografi yang ditulis tanpa ijin atau keterlibatan tokoh tersebut. Istilah tersebut biasanya terbatas pada biografi-biografi yang ditulis pada masa hidup tokoh tersebut atau tak lama usai kematian mereka. Sehingga, istilah tersebut tak ditujukan kepada biografi tokoh sejarah yang ditulis lama setelah kematian mereka.

Edisi tahun 1882 dari Domestic Manners and Private Life of Sir Walter Scott (1834) karya James Hogg, sebuah biografi tak terotorisasi awal.
