Markus Barth

Markus Barth (6 Oktober 1915 – 1 Juli 1994) adalah seorang teolog Perjanjian Baru asal Swiss, anak teolog terkenal dunia, Karl Barth.

Pendidikan dan pekerjaan

Markus Barth belajar teologi di Bern, Basel, Berlin, dan Edinburgh. Antara 1940-1953 ia melayani sebagai seorang pendeta di Bubendorf, dekat Basel, Swiss. Pada 1947 ia memperoleh gelar doktor dalam Perjanjian Baru dari Georg-August-Universität Göttingen. Antara 1953-1972 ia menjadi profesor di sejumlah departemen Studi Agama dan sekolah teologi di Amerika Serikat, yaitu Universitas Dubuque, di Dubuque, Iowa, Universitas Chicago, di Chicago, dan di Seminari Teologi Pittsburgh, di Pittsbugrh, Pennsylvania. Pada 1973 ia kembali ke Basel dan menjadi profesor Perjanjian Baru di kota itu hingga 1985.

Minat teologis

Barth menaruh minat terhadap tiga topik besar dalam teologi, yaitu pemahaman tentang baptisan dan perjamuan kudus, teologi Paulus dan Deutero-Paulus, dan dialog Yahudi-Kristen. Karena itu tulisan-tulisannya umumnya berkisar pada ketiga topik besar ini. Selain itu, Barth juga melakukan studi yang mendalam mengenai pengutusan dalam teologi Kristen. Karena itulah ia menghasilkan buku yang berjudul "Der Augenzeuge" (1945) dan "Justification" (1971) serta banyak artikel dalam buku-buku lain dan jurnal.

Keluarga

Barth menikah pada 1940 dengan Rose Marie Barth-Oswald (19 November 1913–2 September 1993). Mereka dikaruniai lima orang anak, yaitu Peter, Anna, Ruth, Lukas, dan Rose Marie, yang semuanya tinggal di Eropa.
