Jules Joseph Lefebvre
Jules Joseph Lefebvre (bahasa Prancis: [ʒyl ʒɔzɛf ləfɛvʁ]; 14 Maret 1836 – 24 Februari 1911) adalah seorang tokoh Perancis pelukis, pendidik dan ahli teori.

Awal kehidupan sunting
Lefebvre lahir di Tournan-en-Brie, Seine-et-Marne, pada 14 Maret 1836.[1] Ia memasuki École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts pada tahun 1852 dan merupakan murid dari Léon Cogniet.
Karir sunting
Ia memenangkan Prix de Rome yang bergengsi pada tahun 1861. Antara tahun 1855 dan 1898, ia memamerkan 72 potret di Paris Salon. Banyak lukisannya adalah sosok tunggal wanita cantik. Di antara potret terbaiknya adalah potret ML Reynaud dan Prince Imperial (1874).[3] Pada tahun 1891, ia menjadi anggota Akademi Seni Prancis.
Dia adalah profesor di Académie Julian di Paris.[4] Lefebvre terutama penting sebagai guru yang sangat baik dan simpatik yang berjumlah banyak orang Amerika di antara 1500 muridnya atau lebih. Di antara murid-muridnya yang terkenal adalah Fernand Khnopff, Kenyon Cox,[3] Félix Vallotton, Ernst Friedrich von Liphart,[5] Georges Rochegrosse,[6] pelukis lanskap kelahiran Skotlandia William Hart, Walter Lofthouse Dean, dan Edmund C. Tarbell, yang menjadi pelukis Impresionis Amerika.[7] Murid lainnya adalah miniaturis Alice Beckington.[8] Jules Benoit-Lévy memasuki bengkelnya di cole nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts.[9]

- 1870 La Vérité (The Truth) (1870), oil on canvas, Musée d'Orsay, Paris. The painting is contemporary with the first small scale model made by Lefebvre's fellow-Frenchman Frédéric Bartholdi for what became the Statue of Liberty, striking a similar pose, though fully clothed.[2]
