Dalam taksonomi, Thermoplasmatales merupakan ordo dalam Thermoplasmata.^[1] Semuanya asidofili, tumbuh optimal pada pH di bawah 2. Picrophilus saat ini yang paling asidofilik dari semua organisme diketahui tumbuh pada pH minimum 0,06.^[2] Banyak dari organisme tidak mengandung dinding sel, meskipun hal ini tidak benar dalam kasus Picrophilus. Sebagian besar anggota Thermotoplasmata termofilik.

Filogeni sunting

Taksonomi yang diterima saat ini berdasarkan List of Prokaryotic names with Standing in Nomenclature (LPSN)^[3] dan National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI)^[4] dan filogeni berdasarkan LTP berbasis-16S rRNA release 106 oleh 'The All-Species Living Tree' Project.^[5]
