Neil Sloane

Neil James Alexander Sloane (lahir 10 Oktober 1939) adalah seorang matematikawan Britania-Amerika Serikat.[2] Kontribusi utamanya adalah dalam bidang-bidang combinatorics, error-correcting code, dan sphere packing. Sloane paling dikenal sebagai pencipta dan pemelihara On-Line Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences (OEIS).[3]

Biografi sunting

Ia belajar di Universitas Cornell di bawah Nick DeClaris, Frank Rosenblatt, Frederick Jelinek dan Wolfgang Heinrich Johannes Fuchs, menerima gelar Ph. D. pada tahun 1967.[4] Disertasi doktornya yang berjudul Lengths of Cycle Times in Random Neural Networks ("Panjang Waktu Siklus dalam Jaringan Saraf Acak"). Sloane bergabung dengan AT&T Bell Labs pada tahun 1968 dan pensiun dari AT&T Labs pada tahun 2012. Ia menjadi AT&T Fellow pada tahun 1998. Dia juga merupakan Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales,[5] IEEE Fellow, Fellow dari American Mathematical Society,[6] dan anggota National Academy of Engineering.

Dia adalah pemenang Lester R. Ford Award pada tahun 1978[7] dan Chauvenet Prize pada tahun 1979. Pada tahun 2005 Sloane menerima "IEEE Richard W. Hamming Medal".[8] Pada tahun 2008 ia menerima "Matematika Association of America David P. Robbins Award", dan pada tahun 2013 "George Pólya Award".
