Ketakutan Merah Pertama
Ketakutan Merah Pertama adalah istilah yang mengacu kepada ketakutan akan Bolshevisme dan anarkisme di Amerika Serikat pada awal abad ke-20. Ketakutan ini dipicu oleh meletusnya Revolusi Rusia pada tahun 1917 dan ledakan bom yang didalangi oleh kelompok anarkis. Pemerintah AS merasa bahwa ancaman revolusi komunis dapat muncul dari gerakan-gerakan buruh, termasuk Mogok Kerja Seattle dan Mogok Kerja Polisi Boston. Jaksa Agung Amerika Serikat Alexander Mitchell Palmer kemudian mencoba untuk menindas organisasi-organisasi radikal. Upaya ini memiliki ciri berupa retorika yang dilebih-lebihkan, penggeledahan dan penyitaan yang dilakukan secara ilegal, penangkapan tanpa surat perintah, dan deportasi ratusan orang yang diduga sebagai bagian dari kelompok radikal dan anarkis.

Ketakutan Merah Pertama berakhir pada pertengahan tahun 1920, setelah Jaksa Agung Palmer meramalkan bahwa akan terjadi pemberontakan besar-besaran pada Hari Buruh, tetapi ternyata tidak terjadi apa-apa.
