David Dastmalchian
David Dastmalchian (/dəsˈmɔːltʃən/;[1] lahir 21 Juli 1975[2][3]) adalah aktor film dan panggung Amerika. Dia telah memiliki peran pendukung dalam beberapa waralaba pahlawan super; dia memerankan Thomas Schiff di The Dark Knight (2008), Kurt dan Veb di Ant-Man waralaba, Abra Kadabra di dalam The CW The Flash, dan Polka-Dot Man di dalam The Suicide Squad (2021).[4][5] Dia juga muncul dalam tiga Denis Villeneuve's films: Prisoners (2013), Blade Runner 2049 (2017), dan Dune (2021). Dastmalchian menulis dan membintangi film semi-otobiografi Animals (2014).

Kehidupan awal sunting
David Dastmalchian lahir pada tanggal 21 Juli 1975, di Allentown, Pennsylvania,[3] kepada Priscilla dan Hossein Dastmalchian. Ayahnya adalah seorang insinyur Iran-Amerika yang bekerja di perusahaan teknik Black & Veatch.[6][7][8] Dia memiliki dua saudara perempuan dan seorang saudara laki-laki. Orang tuanya bercerai, yang dia gambarkan sebagai "rusuh", dan keduanya menikah lagi. Dia dibesarkan di Overland Park, Kansas, dimana dia hadir Shawnee Mission South High School, menjadi bagian dari klub drama.[9] Dia menggambarkan tumbuh di wilayah metropolitan Kansas City sebagai "sangat tradisional di satu sisi, dan komunitas konservatif yang juga memiliki suku orang yang rad, pinggiran, artistik, progresif yang menemukan konektivitas melalui seni dan budaya KC dan pinggiran kota sekitarnya."[10]
Di masa kecilnya, Dastmalchian berkembang vitiligo, yang menyebabkan dia diejek oleh teman-temannya.[11] Akibatnya, ia mengalami depresi sepanjang masa kecilnya. Tumbuh dewasa, dia menikmati sepak bola, teater, dan komik. Dia akan memotong rumput, menabung untuk membeli komik.[4][12][13] Dia belajar di The Theatre School at DePaul University dan lulus tahun 1999.[14][15][16][17] Sebelum memulai karirnya sebagai aktor, dia mengalami kecanduan heroin selama lima tahun. Dia menulis tentang pengalamannya dalam skenario filmnya, Animals,[9] dan terus mengadvokasi program perawatan kesehatan mental dan penyalahgunaan zat.[18] Tak lama setelah sadar, dia bekerja di sebuah restoran makanan laut di Kansas City.[12] Dia juga sempat menjadi nelayan di Alaska.[19]
