Angkatan Udara El Salvador pertama kali melihat aksi dalam tahun 1969 perang Football melawan Honduras dilengkapi dengan F4U Corsair dan P-51 Mustang. Dari akhir 1970-an diisolasi aksi teroris dengan cepat berkembang menjadi perang saudara, bantuan AS untuk El Savador pada tahun 1980 terdiri dari enam UH-1HS dan empat pada tahun 1981, mereka digunakan sebagai tempur. Pengiriman lain membawa jumlah tersebut hingga 40 UH-1HS .In 1.982 seterusnya Februari USA disampaikan delapan A-37B Capung, 12 UH-1HS, empat O-2AS dan tiga C-123Ks. Pada bulan Desember 1984 dua AC-47 yang dikirimkan ke dalam layanan dengan tiga lainnya C-47 digunakan. Perang saudara berakhir dalam kelelahan saling pada tahun 1990 dan udara itu ditujukan untuk keamanan internal.
