Pada tahun 1952, Turing ditangkap dan diadili atas tindak pidana homoseksualitas. Untuk menghindari penjara, ia menerima suntikan estrogen selama setahun, yang dimaksudkan untuk menetralkan libidonya. Pada masa itu, homoseksual dianggap sebagai sebuah risiko keamanan karena mereka terbuka untuk memeras. Izin keamanan Turing ditarik, berarti dia tidak bisa lagi bekerja untuk [[GCHQ]], penerus pasca-perang untuk Bletchley Park. Hal ini membuatnya bunuh diri pada 7 Juni 1954.
