== Kehidupan ==
Mikio Naruse lahir di Tokyo pada 1905. Selama beberapa tahun, ia bekerja di perusahaan film [[Shochiku]] dibawah pengarahan [[Shiro Kido]] sebnagai manajer properti dan kemudian sebagai asisten sutradara. Ia tidak diijinkan menyutradara sebuah film di Shochiku sampai 1930, ketika ia membuat film debutnya, ''Mr. and Mrs. Swordplay'' (''Chanbara fūfū'').

''[[When a Woman Ascends the Stairs]]'' (1960) (''Onna ga kaidan o agaru'') mengisahkan tentang cerita seorang pembawa acara di bar yang telah berumur yang berusaha beradaptasi dengan zaman modern. ''Scattered Clouds'' (1967) (''Miidaregumo'') (alias ''Two in the Shadow'') adalah film terakhirnya, dan dianggap sebagai salah satu karya terbesarnya. Kisahnya tentang percintaan antara seorang janda dan seorang pengemudi yang menabrak suaminya, film tersebut dibuat dua tahun sebelum kematiannya.
