== Riwayat hidup ==

Matthew Henry dilahirkan di Broad Oak, Iscoyd, sebuah rumah pertanian di perbatasan [[Flintshire]] dan [[Shropshire]]. Ayahnya, Philip Henry, baru saja dikeluarkan dari jabatan kependetaannya dalam kaitan dengan peristiwa "Great Ejection" menurut "Act of Uniformity 1662". Rangkaian komentari Henry umumnya bersifat [[eksegesis]], membahas teks kitab suci sebagaimana adanya, dengan maksud utamanya untuk menjelaskan, bagi tujuan praktis maupun ibadah (''devotional'').
