Kronologi di Kitab Yobel didasarkan pada periode tujuh tahun, sebab Yobel sendiri bermakna periode 49 tahun atau tujuh kali periode tujuh tahun (''seven of year-weeks'').
 
Kitab ini dikenal dengan baik dalam [[Gereja perdana]], sebagaimana terbukti dari tulisan-tulisan [[Epifanius dari Salamis|Epifanius]], [[Yustinus Martir]], [[Origenes]], [[Diodorus dari Tarsus]], [[Isidorus dari Aleksandria]], [[Isidorus dari Sevilla]], [[Eutikius dari Aleksandria]], [[John Malalas]], [[George Syncellus]], dan [[George Kedrenos]]. Teks ini juga dimanfaatkan oleh komunitas yang pada awalnya mengoleksi [[Naskah Laut Mati]]. Tidak ada versi lengkap dalam bahasa Ibrani, Yunani, ataupun Latin yang terlestarikan hingga saat ini.
