'''Polychaeta''' adalah kelas [[cacing]] [[annelida]] yang umumnya hidup di [[laut]],sebagian juga ditemukan di sungai dan danau (air tawar) dan sebagin lainnya ditemukan di darat (terrestrial). Seluruh permukaan tubuh polychaeta mengandung rambut-rambut kaku atau setae yang dilapisi [[kutikula]] sehingga licin dan kaku. Tubuhnya berwarna menarik, seperti ungu kemerah-merahan. Setiap segmen tubuh polychaeta dilengkapi dengan sepasang alat gerak atau alat berenang yang disebut parapodia, pada cacing yang bergerak aktif (Errantia), tetapi pada cacing yang relatif lamban bergerak (Sedentaria) tidak memiliki parapodia. Parapodia berperan sebagai alat [[pernapasan]]. Ukuran tubuh polychaeta sebagian besar berukuran 5-10 cm, tetapi ada yang kurang dari 1 mm (misalnya ''Diurodrilus'') dan ada juga yang mencapai 3 m (misalnya ''Namalycastis rhodochorde'').

Sebagian besar, polychaeta hidup secara bebas (free living), tetapi juga ada yang bersifat parasit pada hewan lain, misalnya Polydora dari famili Spionidae. Contoh jenis Polychaeta antara lain ''calm worm'', [[cacing sorong]], [[cacing wawo]], [[cacing palolo]], dan cacing nipah.
