Struktur dan agen

Debat mengenai keunggulan struktur atau agen pada kelakuan manusia adalah masalah ontologi utama dalam sosiologi, ilmu politik, dan ilmu sosial lainnya. Dalam konteks ini, "agen" merujuk pada kapasitas seseorang untuk bertindak secara independen dan membuat pilihan mereka sendiri. "Struktur", secara luas merujuk pada penataan terpola berulang yang tampaknya memengaruhi atau membatasi pilihan dan kesempatan yang dimiliki seseorang. Perdebatan struktur versus agen dapat dipahami sebagai masalah sosialisasi melawan otonomi. Perdebatan ini dapat disamakan dengan "alam versus didikan" (misalnya "alami versus sosial").
