Didelphimorphia[1] atau oposum adalah ordo umum di belahan barat. Oposum bercabang dari marsupial Amerika Selatan dasar pada akhir zaman Kapur atau awal Paleosen. Mereka umumnya juga disebut "posum", walaupun istilah tersebut juga untuk fauna Australia dari subordo Phalangeriformes. Opossum Virginia adalah satu-satunya binatang bernama oposum. Kata tersebut berasal dari wapathemwa bahasa Algonquian.
