Lillian Gish

Lilian Diana Gish (14 Oktober 1893 – 27 Februari 1993) adalah seorang aktris berkebangsaan Amerika Serikat yang memenangkan nominasi Oscar. Dia dilahirkan di Springfield, Ohio. Dia mulai berkarier di dunia film dari 1912 hingga 1987.

Sejak kecil ia ditinggalkan oleh ayahnya yaitu James Leigh Gish. Lillian tinggal bersama ibunya(Mary Gish) dan adiknya yaitu Dorothy Gish.Lillian sudah bekerja sejak kecil, untuk membuat ia boleh bekerja,Mary Gish memalsukan akta lahirnya menjadi lebih tua dua tahun.Gish berkata ia masih ingat ketika itu sangat menyedihkan ia harus kerja keras untuk mendapatkan uang .Gish mendengar berita mengenai Mary Pickford,karena ia sangat tertarik untuk masuk kedalam dunia perfilman,maka ia mencari tahu siapa Mary Pickford bersama dengan adiknya,mereka mencari Pickford .Mereka terkejut karena ternyata Pickford adalah teman masa kecilnya,ia meminta bantuan untuk mendapatkan pekerjaan, maka Mary mengusulkan Gish bersaudara untuk melamar pekerjaan ke Griffith, karena usia Lillian yang terlalu muda,Mary mengusulkan untuk Gish mengakui bahwa usianya adalah 19,walaupun kenyataannya ia adalah 16.Sebenarnya Pickford tidak memiliki hubungan yang terlalu baik Griffith tetapi,Gish memiliki hubungan yang baik dengan Griffith.Gish menjadi terkenal karena perannya sebagai perempuan yang sangat baik dan cantik.Salah satu film terbaiknya adalah Broken Blossoms.Karier perfilman Gish berlangsung selama 75 tahun.Gish dinyatakan sebagai aktris yang memiliki karier perfilman terpanjang kedua.

Selama masa Hollywood,Gish ditawarkan untuk membuat skandal publik tetapi ia menolaknya dan MGM "membuang" dia dari label perfilman .Gish berkata "But I fooled them" karena film yang ia bintangi setelah itu sukses dan film MGM yang keluar pada tahun yang bersamaan itu gagal .Gish hidup selama 99 tahun .Salah satu film talkies yang ia pernah bintangi adalah Whales of August .Dalam wawancara dikatakan bahwa ia berusia 91 tahun lalu ia membantah secara sopan mengatakan bahwa ia 88 tahun.Dilaporkan bahwa ia adalah salah satu yang tersehat di antara pemain utama.Gish membuat buku mengenai dirinya yaitu,"Movies,Griffith,and me".Kemudian saat ia berusia 67 tahun ia mendapatkan oscar lifetime award.Meskipun Gish sering bermain dalam film,tetapi ia lebih menyukai theatre sehingga ia memutuskan untuk berhenti sebentar dari perfilman dan beralih ke theater,pada akhirnya ia bermain dalam perfilman lagi.

Gish bersaudara sangat populer,seperti band Smashing Pumpkin memiliki album,"Gish",juga ada Lillian Gish and Dorothy Gish award ..
