Lesslie Newbigin
James Edward Lesslie Newbigin adalah teolog Kristen yang terlibat dalam misiologi, oikumene, dan gerakan Injil dan kebudayaan. Ia lahir pada tanggal 8 Desember 1909 dan meninggal pada tanggal 30 Januari 1998.[1] Newbigin adalah seorang pendeta Anglikan dan teolog Inggris yang bekerja di India (1936-1959 dan 1965-1974).[2] Setelah pekerjaannya di India, ia melakukan analisis kritis mengenai keaslian dan tugas teologi Kristen dan teologi agama-agama di tengah-tengah budaya pasca pencerahan di Barat.[2] Beberapa buku yang dituliskannya adalah Faith and Power: Christianity and Islam in Great Britain (1988), yang berisi analisis tajam terhadap peran Islam dalam kevakuman agama di Barat.[2] Buku lainnya adalah The Gospel in a Pluralist Society (1989), menarik bersama-sama pemikiran dan poin-poin menyeluruh tantangan pluralisme dalam teologi dan misiologi.[2] Dalam keinginannya melawan kekuatan sekuler pasca modernitas di Barat, Newbigin menggunakan teologi kontekstual. Pendekatannya ini mengandung harapan bahwa teologi kontekstual daat diterakan di dunia, juga di Barat.[2]
