Jersey City adalah kota terpadat kedua[30] di negara bagian New Jersey, AS, setelah Newark.[31] Ini adalah ibu kota County Hudson,[32] dan merupakan kota terpadat di county ini[21] dan terbesar (menurut wilayah).[10] Pada sensus Amerika Serikat tahun 2020, jumlah penduduk kota ini adalah 292.449 jiwa,[33][34] meningkat sebesar 44.852 jiwa (+18,1%) dari jumlah penduduk pada sensus tahun 2010 sebanyak 247.597 jiwa,[33][34] terjadi peningkatan sebesar 7.542 jiwa ( +3,1%) dari 240.055 yang dihitung pada sensus tahun 2000.[35][36] Program Perkiraan Populasi Biro Sensus menghitung bahwa populasi kota ini adalah 286.670 pada tahun 2022,[20] menempatkan kota ini sebagai kota terpadat ke-74 di negara ini.[22]

Merupakan bagian dari wilayah metropolitan New York, Jersey City di timur dibatasi oleh Sungai Hudson dan Teluk New York Atas dan di barat oleh Sungai Hackensack dan Teluk Newark.
